Simulation tools have been used to construct a virtual work/process environment for the purpose of process analyses. The construct of a simulation model uses the processes, resources, process flow, entities etc; coupled together by statistical relationships. Simulation models developed for planning and design are often aggregated models using statistical distributions to model stochastic nature of the environment. These models provide an insight into the behavior of the system as it reacts to uncertain changes in its design variable e.g, number of items sold effects the inventory levels, number of orders expected will dictate the allocation of resources, time between orders, safety stock levels are linked to out-flow of items etc.
